New Melvins Album Coming in April [Rel-Act]

The Melvins have announced that they’ll be releasing their next album in April, plus a 10 week North American Tour. This time with two bass players!

The Melvins are long-time collaborators with Mike Patton, having toured extensively with Patton’s projects, as well as performing alongside him in a number of his projects. They have just announced a new album Pinkus Abortion Technician that will be released on the 20th of April 2018.  The album will be released on Patton’s Ipecac Recordings and bears similarity in name to the Butthole Surfers’ 1987 album Locust Abortion Technician.

Similar to their recent Basses Loaded album that dabbled in the world of bass players, with six different bass players across the album, Pinkus Abortion Technician will feature two bass players across the entire album.  Jeff Pinkus and Steven McDonald are the lucky bassist to play on the album, and will also be touring with The Melvins in an upcoming 10-week tour of Northern America.

Here’s what Dale Crover had to Say:

With our upcoming release, we double your bass player with Steven McDonald AND Jeff Pinkus holding down the bottom. It’s an experiment in the low end of the aural spectrum where we asked ourselves, ‘would it work?’ ‘could it work??’ ‘should it work???’ The answers were yes, yes and YES!

And Here’s what Buzz Osborne had to say:

We’ve never had two bass players. We’ve had two drummers and two guitar players so it makes total sense to now have two bass players. We’ll be taking this two-prong bass attack on the road as well which should prove to be interesting. Pinkus Abortion Technician is a radically great record and was a stone groove to record. We drank a lot of coffee and enjoyed each other’s company. I like Steven and Jeff a great deal. I admire their bass playing and singing and both of them can grill a mean steak.

The album features 8 tracks with a number of notable songs.  The first track “Stop Moving to Florida” is a medley of a James Gang’s song, “Stop” and a Butthole Surfers song, “Moving to Florida”.  The sixth track “I Want to Hold Your Hand” is a Beatles Cover. And the final track, “Graveyard”, is a Butthole Surfers song.
